Lifschultz Residence

Betsy and Lowell Lifshultz wanted to build a home for their kids and grandkids. They hired Nantucket designer Mark Poor of MWP Design to design it, and he suggested that they talk with us. I visited them one July afternoon, and I brought them a small handmade portfolio of my work. They hired me on the spot, and so began a relationship that continues to this day.

The wood is rift sawn white oak, or Quercus Alba. It's my favorite tree in the forest and my favorite wood to work in the shop. It has the added benefit of being sustainably harvested right here in the eastern United States.

“We’ve worked with a lot of builders in our time, and Will stands out from all of them. Not only is he warm, accessible, and talented, but so too are his people. Andy Buccino was the project manager and some of the best ideas in the house were his. I can still remember him saying ‘Well, what if we did it this way instead?’ And he was so right.

“Today it is so nice to see our daughters cozying up on the couch in the living room together. The whole house is so comfortable. It does exactly what we wanted it to do. It feels exactly like we wanted it to feel.”
